Layering on concealer can only do so much for tired-looking eyes. Whether as a result of aging, heredity, or lifestyle, concerns like dark circles and wrinkles around the eyes can make you look perpetually sleepy. A mix of injectable treatments such as dermal fillers and BOTOX® Cosmetic at our Tallahassee plastic surgery practice can help your eyes reflect the life and energy you feel inside.
Here is your guide to brightening and refreshing your eyes with injectables.
Lines and Wrinkles
BOTOX, Dysport®, and XEOMIN® can reduce lines and wrinkles around your eyes and restore a more youthful, refreshed appearance. These products are neuromodulators. They work by relaxing the specific muscles that form wrinkles as they repeatedly contract over time.
Crow’s feet, or wrinkling around the outer corners of the eyes, is one of the first signs of aging that appears. Because the skin in this area is so delicate and frequently contracts when you smile or squint, it doesn’t take long for lines to form. By relaxing the muscles in this area, neuromodulators prevent the formation of these lines while still allowing you to create natural facial expressions.
Brows
When expertly injected, neuromodulators can have a brow-lifting effect, making your expression appear more naturally open and awake. They achieve this by relaxing the muscles that you use to pull your brows downward in a frown, allowing your forehead muscles to smooth out and refresh your expression.
Neuromodulators can also effectively treat vertical lines between the eyebrows, along with horizontal forehead lines that form when you repeatedly raise and lower your brows.
Under-Eye Hollows
If you struggle with sunken dark circles under your eyes even when you’re well-rested, dermal fillers may be your solution. Dermal fillers can even out the areas under the eyes, minimizing shadows and dark circles that commonly make people appear tired or worn out. Dermal fillers work differently than neuromodulators—learn more in our previous blog post.
While makeup can disguise discoloration under the eyes, it typically can’t camouflage the hollows that appear just above the cheeks. A hyaluronic acid-based filler such as JUVÉDERM® can add volume under the skin to raise that area subtly and reduce shadows.
Bags
Carefully injected dermal fillers can disguise fat deposits, or “bags,” under the eyes for a more rested and vital appearance. By adding volume in the areas around the bags, the filler blends the deposit into the surrounding skin and creates a smoother and more even skin surface. For a longer-lasting solution to under-eye bags, you may want to consider lower blepharoplasty.
