Breast Reconstruction is a procedure that is performed to reconstruct the breasts after a single or double mastectomy. The loss of one or both breasts is a devastating one and there is no right or wrong way to move forward afterwards. For some women, breast reconstruction is an important part of feeling whole again or like themselves again, for other women, reconstruction of the breast is simply not a priority. For the women who do wish to rebuild the breast, breast reconstruction can vary depending on when they know they want to have a reconstruction, what kind of mastectomy they’ve had, their health and their personal preferences. Breasts are typically reconstructed using one of two options: reconstruction by breast implant (saline or silicone), or reconstruction by fat transfer (using the patients own fat from another area of the body and transporting it to the breast to created the breast mound).
Breast Reconstruction can begin during the mastectomy, or start much later. If you are interested in learning more about your breast reconstruction options, contact our office to schedule your consultation.
