For patients who visit us for breast augmentation, often from as far as Dothan, AL, and Destin, FL, the initial consultation is the first step of the journey. While our board-certified plastic surgeons strive to provide all the information you’ll need ahead of your surgery, asking the right questions at this first appointment can help you feel educated and supported from the very start.
With this in mind, here are 5 questions to ask at your breast augmentation consultation to make sure your conversation is as helpful and informative as possible.
1. Are you a board-certified plastic surgeon?
Working with a board-certified plastic surgeon reduces your risk of complications and unsatisfactory results. It’s wise to make sure your surgeon is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. All surgeons here at Southeastern Plastic Surgery are certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and are members of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, so you can rest assured you’re in qualified hands.
2. Which implant size do you recommend for my frame?
It’s great to have a general size or vision for your ideal shape in mind heading into your consultation. Your surgeon’s treatment plan will revolve around making this vision a reality. To that end, he will likely have recommendations to share based on your anatomy, lifestyle, and proportions.

3. Where will my surgery be performed?
During your first conversation with your surgeon, make sure you get key information about the facility where your surgery will be performed. You may want to ask why your surgeon chose this location, and what it has to offer in terms of equipment, safety features, and recovery rooms.
Our surgeons perform most of their procedures at Southeastern Outpatient Surgery Center, a fully accredited on-site ambulatory surgery center that is well-equipped for breast augmentation procedures.
4. What can I expect for recovery?
Your surgeon will provide details about how long you can expect to be away from work, what the physical recovery process will entail, and when you’ll see your final results. It’s important to have realistic expectations for the recovery process. Ask your surgeon how long you’ll need to plan for time off, what side effects you can expect to experience, and how long it will be until the recovery process is fully complete.
5. Can I see before-and-after photos?
A reputable surgeon is ready and willing to share before-and-after photos of previous patients so you can see real examples of his or her work. This openness assures you that your surgeon has a proven track record of success, and it gives you the opportunity to make sure the results are in line with your goals.
